UK Paramedics: Education and Employment

Paramedics in United Kingdom needs to be registered before they can fully practise in the field of medicine. Being a paramedic commonly begins by working in the National Health Service (NHS) Ambulance Service. There, medical care trainees are assigned on non-emergency transport roles. Once the trainee has trained and worked for the first step, they can apply for paramedic training. The courses will take ten to twelve-week sessions involving practises in the hospital emergency department, coronary care centre and operating theatre. Once they finish the course, that’s the only time they can register with their enacting bodies. Most ambulance services nowadays do not hire ambulance technician trainees. One has to finish all  the trainings offered to become a paramedic. UK paramedics are only qualified when they have graduated a similar medicine course. This is why schools are now offering conversion courses to enable IHCD-qualified paramedics to gain a higher educational qualification utilising the Accreditation of Prior Learning (APEL) method. There are approximately twenty universities in the United Kingdom that provides paramedic education. The NHS hires these paramedics and are assigned immediately to accident and emergency ambulances.
