Skills of an Advanced Paramedic

There are many kinds of tragedies that can happen. Whenever it occurs, paramedics are one of the important people that has to  be in the scenario. Paramedics are the experts when it comes to handling emergencies such as severe injuries and deep wounds. For every accident, disaster and calamity there are different ways to treat a person depending on what needs to be dealt with. Paramedics in UK aren’t like those of other countries. The National Health Service has issued a regulation that all paramedics must be registered in order to practice in the emergency area. In order to be registered, they must acquire a set of courses that trains them various first aid and emergency treatment skills. A UK paramedic is initially trained to treat airway management. This is the process of opening a pathway between a patient’s lungs and the oxygen on their surroundings. A person who is in need of treating their airway management must be done by a paramedic in less than two minutes. If a person cannot breathe air, there will be no circulation and when prolonged without action, this can lead to serious matters such as fatality. To conduct airway management, UK paramedics are skilled on manual removal of obstructions, suctioning, tracheal intubation, rapid sequence induction and surgical airways. On disasters such as collisions, crashes, earthquakes and the like, the victims are most likely to get open wounds, internal bleeding and hemorrhage. UK paramedics are apt on circulation treatment by making tourniquets and obtaining intravenous access, intravenous plasma volume expanders, blood transfusion etc. This process is done swiftly and neatly as a person cannot lose too much blood and must not bleed inside his internal system. Another thing that a paramedic is capable of is drug administration. Sick and wounded patients who are in an emergency needs instant medication. Paramedics are allowed to give them drugs through oral intake, intramuscular injections, endotracheal tubing, rectal tubing and through infusion pump. When it comes to health emergencies like cardiac arrest, an ambulance technician doesn’t have the permission to act upon certain tasks. Only a paramedic can do cardiopulmonary resuscitation, achieve dynamic resuscitation including intubation and initiate drug administration. Other skills include patient assessment, wound management and drug administration. Besides the thorough training of a paramedic, a job like this has more into it than treating injured citizens. On being a paramedic, they must treat their profession like it’s the most important thing. A quick emergency treatment can save a life.
