In times of urgency, a doctor may not be available at times. Nurses aren’t equipped to handle such pressure also. This is where the paramedic does the job. Assigned in ambulances and emergency sites, UK paramedics are trained to handle situations that are a danger to the life and the health of the patients. Events that may cause harm to persons life are called disasters and tragedies. Examples of these are great floods, hurricanes, earthquakes, tsunamis and so on. Natural calamities are hard to predict making ordinary people unprepared on what’s going to happen.

Paramedics undergo drills that educate them on what to do when natural devastation occurs. Once the calamity has ended, they are the first ones to go in the field and search for somebody to save. Their usual process is to look for victims first and prioritize the one who is injured the most. Paramedics can provide first aid care to suffice the patient’s needs when he/she is being transported from the disaster area to the nearest hospital. They can control bleeding through making tourniquets, clean wounds and apply all types of dressings. For victims who have been stuck in closed spaces for a long time, their breathing pattern and blood circulation must be checked.

Airway management is conducted by paramedics to help people breathe back to normal again. A broken air passageway may hindrance a person to take in air, making his blood circulation stop that may lead him to fatal harm. Another factor that risks a person’s life is their health disabilities. Cardiac arrest, stroke and trauma has affected a lot of people, even led them to death.

However, when an expert is called on for help immediately, the risk of losing a life may lessen. Heart attack and stroke patients are very crucial. The moment their attack happens, they must be rushed to the hospital right away. While inside the ambulance, these patients are already being treated promptly. On the spot treatment helps the patient survive the crucial condition as it is being traveled for formal medical care. Whenever an emergency occurs, it’s best to contact the nearest ambulance service. It’s all in the matter of a short period of time. Acting hasty may prolong someone’s life in danger.
