Whatever a person does in life, the better the health condition can be, the more work there can be done. However, health is something that is temporary. It may deteriorate because of age or it may be disturbed by diseases. Because of this, we have doctors, nurses and surgeons to thank for. Together with their assessments and treatments, people can maintain their health status and have the privilege of living a longer, happier life.

But diseases and health depreciation aren’t the only things that obstruct a person’s health conditions. There are some occurrences that happen when we least expect it and most of these we cannot control and cannot handle on our own. These may be in the form of accidents, calamities, tragedies and major incidents that may be referred to as an emergency. In times of emergencies, people should be thankful for paramedics and ambulance services.

Every country has an emergency unit that offers Emergency Medical Services (EMS). In the United Kingdom, England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales have their own respective health care systems that govern and fund their area’s emergency medical services. These health care systems are the the National Health Service for England, Health and Social Care in Northern Ireland, NHS Scotland and NHS Wales. Though the countries within UK prefer to have separate systems, they do not discriminate and their services are available to those who are within their area of responsibility at the moment.

As a paramedic, the responsibility of the job is crucial and challenging. The paramedic is the senior ambulance service  healthcare professional within an ambulance staff. They have the capability of assessing the situation and the patient’s condition and perform the right treatment immediately. With extensive training and a degree, paramedics are skilled on areas such as airway management, breathing, circulation, cardiac monitoring, drug administration and so on. They also have the capability to mend fractures and serious wounds, conduct and incision and minor surgical operations within the ambulance.

Aspiring paramedics must have the knowledge, skills and traits in order to become a professional senior ambulance service healthcare professional. Being a paramedic in UK is carefully examined by the law and any ordinary medical practitioner cannot become a Paramedic without the legalities involved. In such dire situations where a person’s physical and psychological features are jeopardised, a Paramedic must be able to handle critical situations with calmness and  presence of mind in a swift manner.

Among all the out of hospital duties, it’s the ambulance service that gets on the patient’s area as fast as they can and improve conditions before getting all the help that is needed on the nearest hospital. Emergencies are one of the examples that anything can happen in an instant where we aren’t fully prepared. Good thing there are dedicated paramedics and ambulance trusts that are just a hotline away.
