Salary:  £25,528 to £34,189 pa pro

The Cervical Screening Mentors will facilitate and support good practice in relation to the practical aspects of cervical sample taking.

Main Duties are the following:

  • Act as a nurse assessor for nurses undertaking a recognised accredited cervical screening course
  • Establish and maintain an effective communications network with relevant practitioners and others in the PCT.
  • The post holder will work autonomously to achieve the priorities of the training scheme.
  • The post holder will receive confidential information from the Cytology Laboratory on sample taker performance relating to individual sample takers. This data will guide theMentoron what remedial action to take with support from the PCT’s written guidance and if necessary clinical governance.
  • On an on-going basis, identify and evaluate relevant research findings to support safe and effective clinical practice for self and learners.
  • Ensure own knowledge and experience is updated on a regular basis in order to provide expert knowledge for peers, and other professionals e.g. General Practitioners.
  • On occasions the Cervical Screening Mentor will be required to prepare a report or to analyse documentations which relate to this specialist subject area.
  • The post holder will comply with local policy in relation to reporting incidents.
  • The Cervical Screening Mentor is professionally accountable for adhering to the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Conduct and all other similar professional directives.
  • Participate in peer review

Qualifications/Requirements are:

  • RGN 1st level qualification
  • Accredited course for sample takere.gUniversityaccredited ENB, Marie Curie
  • 3 years recent experience of working in General Practice as Practice Nurse / Community Nurse
  • 2 years minimum recent practical experience in cervical screening
  • Teaching and presentation skills gained through a post basic / graduate  education programme
  • Communication skills, verbal and written
  • Understanding of the dynamics of working in Primary care
  • Detailed knowledge of the Cervical Screening Programme
  • Knowledge of local services
  • Undertakes at least 50 smears per annum
  • Self motivated
  • Flexible and adaptable
  • Effective time management
  • Confident
  • Able to commit 12 hours a month
  • Car driver or independently mobile in a suitable vehicle
  • Application supported by Practice manager
  • Committed for safeguarding
