Isle of Wight Primary Care Trust is the healthcare provider on the Isle of Wight. They give services such as GPs, Dentists, Pharmacists, Opticians, Hospital Care and Community Care.
The Primary Care Trusts also receive their funding from the government. It provides Acute Care, Mental Health, Ambulance and Community Services so that the communities can have access to medical services easily rather than having to travel elsewhere in UK for treatment. In this way, the PCT has been able to provide a care more cost effectively as a single organization.
Currently, there are 3,000 staff employed by the Isle of Wight NHS Primary Care Trust and who are committed to delivering quality service and personal development. Also, other than the Central hospital of ST. Mary’s, health clinics are spread throughout the island to offer a wide range of community services which includes Occupational Therapy and Wheelchair Services, Asthma and Allergy Care, Physiotherapy, Orthotics and Prosthetics, Dietetics, Speech and Language Therapy, Sexual Health, Podiatry, to name a few.
The Island has the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service which is integrated to Isle of Wight NHS PCT. This is the only ambulance in UK that has a unique status. The result of this integration has allowed the ambulance service to provide more efficient health-based services and this joint relationship has able the service to achieving call connect targets.
